PORTO

(OCTOBER 7-10)

Our base in Porto is the Vincci Porto,

a designer hotel in the historical centre.

Detailed and engaging tours of the Boa Nova Casa da Chá (Tea House), and Piscina das Mares (Tidal Pools)—two iconic early works by Alvaro Siza Vieria, Portugal’s most renowned architect—both located on the Leça da Palmeira coast north of Porto, followed by a fresh grilled fish lunch adjacent to the famed

Matosinhos Port.

Pit-stop at the new Manteigaria Bakery for the famous Pasteis de Nata (custard tarts) and perhaps a shot of port. Stroll the pedestrian streets adjacent to the Bolhão Market and take in the wondrous historic tile murals of the central train station. Relax and refresh at the hotel.

Dinner at Essência Restaurant, 3-course prix fixe with wine (vegetarian, vegan and meat options all available).

Spend a morning at the Serralves Foundation Museum of Contemporary Art  designed by Àlvaro Siza Vieira (considered one of the top ten contemporary art museums in the world), and an afternoon at the extraordinary Design Biennale.

Portugal is on the cusp of something quite remarkable. It is becoming a contemporary culture powerhouse. Not just in one sphere, but everywhere all at once. ART – ARCHITECTURE – DESIGN – FOOD– WINE. The quality and depth of talent is extraordinary.

Culture Viewfinder invites you to capture the moment as a participant in the first of its kind, insider-access program featuring the contemporary culture in Lisbon and Porto. Our inaugural night is designed to coincide with the opening exhibition and party celebrating the Trienal da Arquitectura da Lisboa. Experience eight days of behind the scenes visits to the top museums, as well as private institutions and foundations (otherwise not open to the public) where you will meet the directors, curators, architects, and advocates who are driving cultural change across the country. Become familiar with iconic early modern buildings, and lesser known neighbourhoods during personal talks given by experienced architects, and architecture writers. Walk the atmospheric streets. Visit key shops featuring unique Portuguese products. Feel and taste the atmosphere of Portugal’s two largest cities in charming mercerias, bustling cervarias and modern restaurants showcasing the freshest and finest of Portuguese cuisine and wine.

Discover why Tyler Brulé’s culture forward magazine and organization Monocle chose Lisbon as the location for their first-ever Quality of Life Conference, and Bon Appetit magazine published How Portugal Became the Greatest Place to Eat Right Now, in October 2018. Click here to read full article.
